The basic VitaMix 5200 package also comes with a DVD that gives you a crash course on how to use the machine, a recipe binder with a selection of whole foods recipes, the owner’s manual, and a tamper that can be used to push thick or frozen ingredients into the blade even as the machine is running. The co-polyester (plastic) blending jar is generously sized at 64 ounces, and it has a redesigned lid that has a twist-out plug that doubles as a measuring cup. The Vita-Mix 5200 comes in black, white and red.
Vitamix’s standard home models draw less power at 11.5 amps/1380 watts and 2 peak horsepower motor vs Blendtec’s 13 amps/1560 watts and 3 peak horsepower motor. Vitamix’s newest 750 models are more powerful than their predecessors, with a 2.2 horsepower motor. Having said that, they each have plenty of power and torque to easily blend any food product.
To wash the Vitamix – Add one drop of dish liquid, that’s right just one drop of soap with water will fill the container with suds. Run the Vitamix on high for a minute or so and your Vitamix will be sparkling clean. Just rinse it out and it’s ready for your your next creation.
One word of caution though – always use the lid of the vitamix and just remove the center piece to insert the tamper. If you try to use the tamper without having the lid in place, the Vitamix will indeed eat the tamper. The blades are extremely sharp.
